The Making of ‘In Her Name’ and Music by Ali Helnwein at Petit Ermitage
CMP is co-hosting Monday Night Music & Film Salons at Petit Ermitage with Darby Gaelle Hannon, and BLKBRD Films. On October 21st, we hosted a celebration of In Her Name.
THESE NIGHTS OFFER CONNECTION AND BEHIND THE SCENES CONVERSATION ABOUT
THE MAGIC AND MADNESS OF ART, MUSIC, AND FILMMAKING
Doors opened at 7:00pm where guests were able to settle into the evening atmosphere. We grabbed drinks and food, and headed to The Wiggle Room for Ali’s set
Ali Helnwein is an award winning film composer who has graced three CMP projects now: In Her Name, A Pity, and Scene House.
Around 8pm we moved to the fire deck for a special screening of In Her Name’s Behind the Scenes Documentary, followed by a casual Q & A. Food, desserts, and drinks were available.
This was the first official screening of the BTS doc and an opportunity to chat about the ins and outs of indie filmmaking.
We screened In Her Name after the documentary for anyone who wanted to cozy up by the fires for a deeper look. Both written and directed by Sarah Carter, these films should serve to inspire her mission to be a living example of life and art unfolding in similar and miraculous ways.
For those who couldn’t make it, the Blu-ray of In Her Name includes the BTS Documentary, and you can stream the film on Apple TV, Amazon Prime, Google Play, Kanopy, and Fandango. Make sure to leave a rating and review wherever your stream it and on IMDb after viewing.
These salons have been a unique opportunity to network in an environment focused on the lives and works of artists. The only way our stories are told is if we tell them. And the only way to survive and thrive in our purity as artists is if we support each other. We don’t have to wait for permission or to be chosen. We can make and share our life’s work if we cultivate community. The story of In Her Name should be inspiring to anyone who feels their vision is an impossible one.
Sarah LaBrie Book Launch w/ Palma Collective
On Tuesday, October 22nd, CMP hosted a book launch for Sarah LaBrie’s new memoir, No One Gets to Fall Apart, published by HarperCollins. This intentional cacao ceremony and women’s circle was an opportunity to create a safe heart centered space to support Sarah with the release of her incredible story.
The story follows La Brie’s journey to trace her family history of mental illness, from the dysphoria that plagued her great-grandmother, a granddaughter of slaves, to her own experience with depression as a scholarship student at Brown. At the same time, she navigates a decades-long fixation on a novel she can’t finish but can’t abandon, her complicated feelings about her white partner, and a fraught friendship colored by betrayal.
Spanning the globe from Houston’s Third Ward to Paris to Tallinn and New York to Los Angeles, No One Gets to Fall Apart is an unflinching chronicle of one woman’s attempt to forge a new future through a better understanding of the past.
Camino Update
CMP is currently in post-production on the short film Scene House, written and directed by Annabella Fazio. Annabella’s next project, CAMINO, hosted an industry table read on Wednesday, October 9th in New York City. The table read offered an exclusive, industry-only preview of the film as the filmmakers begin seeking development funding and production partners. The film stars Annabella Fazio and Lio Mehiel, winner of Sundance's 2023 Best Acting award for Mutt, and Sundance 2024 winner for In the Summers, as well as other notable indie talent.
CAMINO follows an unexpected romance on a Spanish rewilding horse ranch between Ellie (Annabella Fazio), a mosaic artist and ranch worker, and Ifa (Lio Mehiel), a Brazilian cowboy. When forced to leave the confines of the ranch for a new frontier, the budding relationship is challenged - questioning if the very qualities that drew them together could ultimately tear them apart.
Stay in your magic.
