World Premiere of In Her Name!
Cheshire Moon Productions is thriving and things are heating up! Not only are we heading to Tribeca Film Festival in New York to celebrate our very own In Her Name, but our family of collaborators is also blossoming and keeping us inspired.
Tribeca Film Festival
In Her Name will have its World Premiere at Tribeca Film Festival. At a time when our society could truly benefit from a lesson in forgiveness, growth, and unconditional love we want to spread this message, laugh, and cry with as many of our earth mates as possible. Founded in 2003 by Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal, and Craig Hatkoff, Tribeca Film Festival brings artists and audiences together to celebrate storytelling in all its forms, including film, TV, music, audio storytelling, games, and immersive. Tribeca champions emerging and established voices, discovers award-winning talent, curates innovative experiences, and introduces new ideas through exclusive premieres, exhibitions, conversations, and live performances.
Next Generation Indie Film Awards
If that wasn’t enough to be proud of, we’ve been invited to celebrate several nominations for Next Generation Film Awards. Congratulations to the entire production team spearheaded by our band of mothers, Sarah Carter, Erin Hammond, Ciera Danielle, and Cynthia Bravo. In Her Name has been nominated for BEST NEW FEATURE, Iain Trimble for BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY, Ciera Danielle for BEST LEAD ACTOR, Philippe Caland for BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR, and Sarah Carter for BEST DIRECTOR.
The Doc
To our family and supporters in NY, Kevin and I will be supporting Kevin’s work editing THE DOC , celebrating with friends who also have work featured at Tribeca, attending events for Women in Film, and fueling up from the electric energy of NYC.
The film chronicles the life of lyricist and producer The D.O.C., who wrote for NWA and Dr. Dre, co-founded Death Row Records, mentored Snoop Dogg, and left his mark on HipHop culture forever. 30 years after a devastating car crash that took his voice, The D.O.C. is still struggling with his legacy as a rapper with the greatest cadence before West Coast rap exploded in popularity and he considers surgery that might be able to restore his vocals. The DOC explores this risky decision alongside a cast of celebrities who reflect on his impact in their lives and in the world from music, to love, to civil rights crusading.
“The film is a time capsule of the passion and purpose behind hip hop music in the 90s, especially within the social and political contexts of LA. Stories of falling in love with Erykah Badu and creating other meaningful relationships with giants in the rap game make for an emotional experience that will comfort both HipHop heads and pop-culture enthusiasts.” -- Shakira Refos
Ischia Global Fest
Congratulations again to the entire A Pity team for getting into another festival in Italy: Ischia Global Fest!!
Loud Triumphs
It is also our pleasure to highlight one of our Cheshire Moon family members, Antoinette Dormer Whitman. Sarah on behalf of Cheshire Moon Productions had the opportunity to be a contributing producer for her short film Loud Triumphs. Co-Founder of Divine & Align Media, Antoinette was the 2nd AD on In Her Name and it has been a pleasure to watch her evolve as a creative. In knowing her you see her light and know she’s destined for great things, so it was nothing for CMP to support her creative endeavors. You can watch their first film here, and stay on the lookout for their second short and Antoinette’s directorial debut Sauced set to premiere this August.
Our Mission
We are committed to providing opportunities for artists to share their gifts, sustain their lives, garner recognition, and attain well-deserved support for the courage it takes to pursue freedom.
Our mission is to leave the world more openhearted by cultivating the power of unique authentic expression.
Our hope is that those pursuing freedom do not have to feel alone along the way. We have found that chosen family supports true freedom, and that is what we offer.
Sarah’s Story
I was 20 years old in a one-year program studying fine arts in Switzerland when I realized that I knew exactly what I wanted to do with my life. Soon after, I flew back to Canada and started studying theater and dance at Ryerson University in Toronto. When my mom got sick with breast cancer, I returned home to Winnipeg and started looking for agencies and work to support my goals as an actor while remaining close to my family.
That was two decades ago, and in the years since I’ve starred and made appearances in over 65 series and films. The most memorable have been the series Falling Skies, Shark, Smallville, Rogue, and The Flash, and the films Haven (with Orlando Bloom, Zoe Saldana, and Anthony Mackie), Final Destination 2, and The Vow (opposite Rachel McAdams). Over the course of my career I have shadowed and worked with several top directors including Spike Lee, Judd Apatow, and Steven Spielberg.
I now serve as the CEO of our film company, Cheshire Moon Productions, and have partnered with EmpowHer, an organization that supports and inspires young women who have lost their mothers.
Having just completed my directorial debut, In Her Name, as well as starring in and producing my husband’s first feature, A Pity, we are officially on the path to proving family values and artistic values do not have to be at odds. This path has not been easy, but we persevered and discovered that our artistic expression really does nourish and elevate our lives and the lives of our community and collaborators.
My life and creative experiences have shown me that there’s beauty in delving into the darkness and shining a light on the aspects of humanity that need acceptance. What brings the most value to the teams I work with is my ability to be fully engaged and lead by holding space in a purely feminine way. For me, the most beautiful way to do that is through a maternal lens.
I am so grateful to my daughter Alice for making me a mother, to my own mother who has always believed in me and supported me to accomplish my goals, to my dear friends who light the way with laughter and tears, and to all of the women, men, and non-binary people who have followed their hearts, not lost hope, inspired me, challenged me, taken me under their wings, and held my hand through the highs and lows.
Thank you for being here.
We are family.
